I was reading a study last year of successful people and the common factor was the requirement to do chores as a child. Something to do with learning to pull your weight and be part of a team.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-89113266203611523222008-06-14T14:38:00.000-07:002008-06-14T14:38:00.000-07:00LOVE this! People scoff when I tell them my kids start folding their own laundry at age 3, but I'll tell you, it's incredible liberation! And capable, independent children are happy children too! Their future spouses owe me BIG TIME.Jennahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16015165553390298826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-71540028291357008012008-06-12T15:05:00.000-07:002008-06-12T15:05:00.000-07:00Laura has been inspiring me in the same way. I think child labor is highly underutilized in this country.Larahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12518442124374879454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-30248293497962901842008-06-12T03:41:00.000-07:002008-06-12T03:41:00.000-07:00This is exactly what we've been doing lately. He complained in the beginning, but now it's second hand to him.

And The Boy has been responsible for his bathroom because I was sick of cleaning up the toilet after he was through.

The Girl? She told me last Friday that she wanted to learn how to do the laundry. She knows now and I haven't had to do a load at all. She totally rocks and she's having fun knowing that she's doing it all on her own.

Both the kids have cooked with us for a while, but that's because we're the couple that loves to be in the kitchen.

I LOVE your kitchen idea. I'm stealing it. But not the book. That one I'll find and bring home properly.Shaleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02364055849106684154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-84119792820437736482008-06-11T20:32:00.000-07:002008-06-11T20:32:00.000-07:00My kiddos really are too young to help much (3 and...My kiddos really are too young to help much (3 and 1), but I still try to get them involved. True, folding clean laundry takes longer when your helpers are unfolding what you've folded and dumping things on the floor, but they are involved. When they get old enough I'm hoping that this being involved will make moving on to helping and then doing easier transitions.

You are a great inspiration. I hope you'll post how it worked out at the end of the summer (or sooner). :-)kyouellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02992252292707394134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-86712360642987279952008-06-11T19:55:00.000-07:002008-06-11T19:55:00.000-07:00My kiddos are young still (6, 4 and 5 months). That's been my excuse.

But your post has given me fresh resolve to get the older two more involved -- especially now that summer is here. Plus, I think they are at the age where they would enjoy it. I should jump all over that.Kelly @ Love Wellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18037513409301217473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-25726873970374074732008-06-11T16:54:00.000-07:002008-06-11T16:54:00.000-07:00OK, now I really need to get my hands on a copy of...OK, now I really need to get my hands on a copy of this book.

You are one brilliant mother ... and if you get those cookie recipes, make sure you pass them along :) !!An Ordinary Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05497066145696617241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34687963.post-2574709858927823702008-06-11T16:47:00.000-07:002008-06-11T16:47:00.000-07:00You go, girl!
