Gabie-ism for the day

So I was just resting my eyes for one minute. Please. One minute is all I asked. I had to close my bedroom door and climb into bed to do this because the kids were making too much noise and I wanted to avoid mommy reality just long enough to knock the edge off my headache. But I should know better.

Exactly 49 seconds into my delusion, Gabie pops open the door and comes over to stick his face next to mine and inform me that he's invented a new musical instrument with pipes, sand and water. "It's a Gabie horn," he says.

"You know, that's fabulous," I tell him, "but Gabie, when are you going to learn that if the door is shut, I just want to be left alone for a minute?"

He doesn't even have to think about it: "I'll probably learn that in 2 more years."

Great. Well at least I have a timetable to work with.

I have days like this as well. Sometimes I would just like to go to the bathroom or take a shower without little people interrupting me by yelling at the door of the bathroom or worse, picking the lock. They do give lots to smile about along with the frustrations though.

I think his estimate may be a bit optimistic as I've found my 15 year old still has problems with this concept. Still, you have to admire his own assessment of his learning curve!

(What a funny boy. That comment put him into firmly into my "favorites" category, along with Aliki's Liam!)

I love how literal they are.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Ask him to figure out a way to shift the timetable from 2 years to "now." He's pretty sharp, and you've got nothing to lose except your sanity.

Yes let's pretend that last part isn't a lost cause mmm-kay?

Sounds really familiar.

My "favorite" was when my kids would whisper to me as if that wouldn't really wake me up.

Now THAT was funny! But you do realize that time is relevant to kids and his 2 years could be 8. I'm just saying...
