Man, those piles don't even look that bad from this angle. Why does it take so dang long to get through them? Sigh. Ah well, the life of a professor/wife/mother/wanna-be-writer is never dull. Exhausting sometimes maybe, but never dull.
And never, ever lonely because—with the exception of the productive six hours spent entirely by myself in my office on campus on Saturday (thanks Ken!)—I usually have lots of company when I grade papers. I have little helpers willing to reorganize my stacks and doodle on the pages and play Mr. Crocodile with the stapler.
