A twist of ribbon

Here's my latest publication (page 34). It's in the Wasatch Journal and is about a fascinating Utah artist named Edie Roberson. I wish I hadn't been restricted by a word limit because Edie is the kind of person I could have written much, much more about (as it was, I did write more but alas the magazine edited it down to what they had room for). I have tremendous respect for Edie who is not only brilliant and creative, but a warm, kind soul with the great wisdom of her years. What a privilege it was for me to meet her and see a piece of her world. Take a look. The magazine's online user interface is a bit tedious, but hopefully worth the download time...

I can't find an online picture of "Channel Three"; it was mentioned in the article, but there was no photo of it.

Great article, Jules, and it was fun to get to know a new artist I was unfamiliar with. I'll bet it was amazing to spend time with her and interview her. Congratulations!

Parenthetically, I'll keep the Wasatch Journal website in mind as an example of how technology gets in the way of rather than enhances the user experience.

Just let me say that we are very pleased with your article about my Mother and her art. You did a really good job of getting to the essence of her spirit, motivations and creative processes. You are indeed, a very talented writer!

My only (small) critique would be that the article failed to mention her website. So here it is again! - edieroberson.com

Thank you so much Julie and keep up the great work!

p.s. I haven't posted the "Channel Three" painting yet, but I will. (Along with a couple hundred more that we have yet to digitize.) Also, I added a News Blurb to the website with a link to your article and blog. Peace!

Great article on Edie Roberson. I first discovered her work in the museum in Fairview, Utah, where she has a painting displayed alongside Avard Fairbanks sculptures. It is a lovely, evocative piece that is a combination of still life and seascape. The viewer is looking through a window out onto a beach. There are little objects on the window sill. Whenever we go to Fairview or drive through on our way south, we have to stop at the museum so that I can visit this painting. It is like a pilgrimage. You are a fine writer and did justice to a fine painter and a kind person.
